2004-2005 Action Plan Summary
The 2004-2005 Action plan for the Elliott and Lefler Community
Learning Centers was developed in collaboration with funders,
school and community partners, families, students, and by
utilizing surveys from parents, families, and teachers.
First Priority: Improve Student Learning and development by
supporting before and after school programming; providing
multiple experiential learning opportunities, supporting cultural
and linguistic heritage; improving the health and well being
of students; and using school academic and behavioral supports
within all youth programs.
Programming includes:
- Elliott Morning Program – Breakfast, recreation,
Art, & Music
- Elliott Youth Academy – Academic & Cultural
Enrichment, Character Development, Health & Fitness
- Elliott Strong Minds – 3rd & 4th Grade Saturday
Incentive (Cooper, cooperative games)
- Elliott Saturday Sports – Team sports activities
at Elliott
- Elliott Fall & Spring Break programs – Academic,
Enrichment, Character Development, and Health & Fitness
activities
- Elliott Summer Program – Academic, Enrichment, Character
Development, and Health & Fitness activities
- Elliott/Lefler Enrichment – Periodic special events
(MLK Day, Plays, etc.)
- Elliott/Lefler Sports teams & Clinics – YMCA
Youth Sports and Intramurals
- Lefler Afterschool Program – Academic, Enrichment,
Character Development, and Health & Fitness activities
- Lefler Saturday Outreach – Weekend trips to Cooper
YMCA
- Lefler Fall & Spring Break programs - Academic, Enrichment,
Character Development, and Health & Fitness activities
- Lefler Summer Program – Academic, Enrichment, Character
Development, and Health & Fitness activities
Collaborative partners include: American Red Cross, Asian
Community & Cultural Center, Clyde Malone Community Center,
Elliott School, Faces of the Middle East, Heart of Lincoln,
Hispanic Community Center, Homestead Girl Scouts, Lefler School,
Lincoln Interfaith Council, The Lighthouse, Lincoln Community
Playhouse, Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, Mary
Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, Title I Programs, YMCA, YWCA,
and other community based organizations.
Second Priority: Strengthen Families by providing opportunities
for families to come together for positive and enriching activities
and programs, and connecting families to supportive services.
Programs Include:

other community based organizations.
Third Priority: Develop Healthier Neighborhoods by providing
adult educational opportunities, connection to resources and
information about housing programs, promotion of health, fitness,
and wellness programs, and School Neighborhood Advisory Committee
support.
Programs Include:
- Elliott Adult Computer Class – introduces computers
and cultivates comfort with computers for community adults.
- Elliott School Neighborhood Advisory Committee –
Families, school, and neighborhood come together to advocate,
coordinate, and share information.
- Elliott/Lefler Health Fair – In collaboration with
LLCHD
- Elliott/Lefler CPR & First Aid Class – American
Red Cross
- Elliott/Lefler ESL Class – Southeast Community College
Adult English language class for level 1.
- Elliott/Lefler First-time Homebuyers program – Neighborhoods
Inc.
- Elliott/Lefler One on One English Tutoring – Lincoln
Literacy Council program.
- Elliott/Lefler Gardening Class – participants learn
gardening skills as they improve our school and neighborhood.
- Elliott/Lefler Community Conversations – Series
of talks to engage members of our community in meaningful
conversations about opportunities
- Elliott/Lefler Voter Registration
- Lefler School Neighborhood Advisory Committee –
Families, school, and neighborhood come together to advocate,
coordinate, and share information.
Collaborative partners include: American Red Cross, Lincoln
Action Program, Lincoln Center Kiwanis, Lincoln-Lancaster
County Health Department, Lincoln Literacy Council, Natural
Resource District, Neighborhoods Inc., Southeast Community
College, YMCA, and other community based organizations.
