What Families Need to Know / Expectations

Hawthorne CLC Program Statement

CLC Core Program provides, under the guidance of trained personnel, the opportunity for a child to develop…
…physically, through gross motor and fine motor activities.
…emotionally, through recognition of their own feelings and those of others.
…socially, through encouragement of cooperative play with other children.
…intellectually, through activities that stimulate intellectual development.
The program policies and procedures are non-discriminatory in regard to race, color, national origin, religion or gender.

Student Expectations

The same expectations of students during the school day at Hawthorne carries into the Hawthorne Community Learning Center in the out of school hours.

Students will conduct themselves in a manner that guarantees a safe learning environment at the Hawthorne Community Learning Center. All appropriate and acceptable behavior is included in Hawthorne’s three simple Guidelines for Success:

Be Safe
We help everyone to feel physically and emotionally secure.
Be Responsible
We are accountable for all of our actions.
Be Respectful
We value and are considerate of others.

Discipline Policy

The CLC, like Hawthorne Elementary School, utilizes the problem solving technique called Think Time whenever any student exhibits a behavior that is disruptive to the class. The technique emphasizes the seriousness of education, respectfulness of the learning environment, and the importance of students taking responsibility for their own behavior.

Think Time has two parts. The first part is designed to allow students to focus and gain self-control b asking them to either sit off to the side or move to another classroom to think about their behavior when they are disruptive. The second part involves providing the student an opportunity to make a plan for future success in the classroom and to then discuss the plan with program staff.

Program staff will notify you when your child has been directed to Think Time three or more times within the school week. Staff will ask for your assistance if problems persist or if a problem is unusually challenging.

We request your cooperation and support in the effort to provide classroom environments that are conducive to learning. Feel free to contact staff if you should have any questions.
