Saratoga CLC Program Statement
SEAL Club at Saratoga School is an academic enrichment program
that provides a safe, nurturing, and academically enriching
environment for children during after school
hours. Through formal school-community collaboration, students
in SEAL Club are
provided the opportunity to attain Colin Powell’s Five
Promises to Youth:
- An ongoing relationship with a caring adult;
- A safe place during school and after school hours;
- A healthy start in life and the promotion of a healthy
lifestyle;
- A marketable skill.
- An opportunity to give back to his or her community through
service.
The program policies and procedures are non-discriminatory
in regard to race, color, national origin, religion or gender.
Student Expectations
The same expectations of students during the school day at
Saratoga apply to after school programs at Saratoga. Site
staff support and enforce the Lincoln Public Schools’
Right and Responsibilities of Students.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner
that guarantees a safe and productive learning environment
at the Lena Merrill Community Learning Center at Saratoga
School.
Discipline Policy
We make every attempt to help students acquire and utilize
the social skills that will enable them to be successful at
home, in the neighborhood, and in the work place. When a child
fails to use appropriate behavior skills, program staff attempt
to problem-solve with the child in an effort to turn the situation
into a learning opportunity. When a child refuses to solve
the problem with program staff, he or she may be sent to the
office for a time-out period with the program administrator.
Once the child has problem-solved with the administrator,
he or she may return to the class. If, however, the child
is sent to the office a second time in the same day, he or
she will be required to remain in the office until picked
up by parents at the end of the day.
When a child’s negative behavior pattern begins to
repeat on a consistent basis, parents may be asked to make
an appointment with program staff to help develop a behavior
plan for their child. In some cases, program staff may confer
with parents about whether or not SEAL Club is an appropriate
after school option for a student.
* Police will be notified when a student leaves the
premises without following proper sign-out procedures, and
in the company of an authorized escort.We request your cooperation
and support in our effort to provide classroom environments
that are conducive to learning. Feel free to contact staff
if you have any questions.
